OK so heres my problem. I have 2 tiger barbs and 2 albinos. For a while one of the albinos was bullied but everything was fine until today. One of my tiger barbs seems to be swimming back and forth and the bottom of the water, almost like on patrol. Now the other tiger barb and 2 albinos have been hiding in the plants. Now i looked at the tiger that was being agressive and noticed that the tips of his fins a were much brighterred than the other tiger barb, who he seems to constantly chase. The agressive one is also slightly smaller. Now i dont really know what to think of now, maybe theyre mating, i have no idea. What do you guys think?

How big is your tank?? Tiger barbs like to chase each other, so a small school of 6 or so is best in a 20gal or bigger tank.

Ive had the same problems with my Tiger Barbs. The reason for keeping them in a school is to spread out the aggression and not have it directed on a single fish. In my experience when another male challenges the dominant male , thier dorsal fins become fully erect and they both display bright colors. They will sort of do a bullfighting dance with each other, going around each other in circles untill one submits and takes off and hides.

I've seen the same type of "bullfighting" between my small tiger and small green barb. There used to be a larger green barb that ruled them both but when I came back from vacation (gone 2 days) the larger green barb (about 1 1/2") was jammed up into the intake of my powerhead (and he looked a couple days dead). I'm still trying to figure out how he got jammed up there (the dia. opening is about 3/4") I know my red tail shark hated him, so I'm thinking he got chased to close to the inlet and couldn't escape. I put a screen over the inlet to prevent any others from getting sucked into it...

I'm either going to get a few more barbs to increase their numbers or just take the two back to my lfs...I don't know yet...

I had this problem also, the only solution I could find like someone else said was to add a couple more barbs to even out the aggression it does help a lot IMO.

fun fish and pretty but soooo aggressive I have a 10 gal with only tiger barbs and one CAE who will probably be moved later on.

Definately get more Tiger Barbs. They are great fish, but you need at least 6 (I would get more if possible). I've kept them well with Bala Sharks.

I decided to take back my small Tiger Barb and Green Barb to my lfs who happily accepted them, rather than increase their qty... They'll be much happier in a tank full of their buddies, I think.

I bought two Dwarf Gourami's (Blue) as replacements. Very pretty fish!

be very careful to watch they don't get their fins nipped especially in a 10 gal with two tiger barbs left. Also the gourami's might not get along well in such a small space because they can tend to be aggressive also and are territorial. My BF has two but they are in a 55gal community tank. and Stilll nip at each other if one gets too close to the other's territory.
