hey,
yes acaras are aggresive, they are recommended only to keep with other cichlids of similar size.....(firemouths etc...)
plus rams are on the whole pretty peaceful so.....dinner!!
a friend has 6 acaras in a tank on their own, and the breeding pair in there make life hell for the other 4....
hth.

Mine is as soft as butter. It doesn't even eat neons or platy fry.

I've kept a breeding pair in a 100g community tank and i've never seen them eat another fish, even when protecting fry.
How often do you feed your acara.
Cheers.
i keep mine in a 125 gallon cichlid community and find them to be total pushovers. in 2 yrs i can say i have never even seem them look twice at fry in the tank. the most aggressive act i have seen was when my male took a south american puffer, who kept swimming in their nest site, in his mouth and carried him 6 or so inches and spit him out. it was the most gentle territorial defense i have ever seen.
Depends on how big your tank is and how many fish you have in that tank. Blue Acara gets territorial, but they don't chew the fish up, unless they are so small...like guppy that can fit in their mouth and stomach. How big is your Ram? And how big is your Acara?

Rule of thumb for all cichlids to remember is.
If it fits in their mouth..... They will eat it.
Aggression is a relative term with cichlids. They all are to one extent or another. Some more than others. BUT. Even the most docile cichlid will eat what it can.

if it fits in their mouth they will eat it, if they are huingry they will try to eat it.
blue acaras are normally pretty calm but they are territirial but my blue acaras do love to eat some small guppies and platys when i throw some in there, the pacus like feeders also, i breed here at home so im not worried about them gettin diseases.
