I have a 45 show tank (36"x12"x24") and a Custom Sealife 96w CF 8800k light. My substrate is 31 lbs of Red Flourite and 20 lbs of small river rock. It's been cycling for about two weeks now. The water is clear and clean. I've been taking water out of my 29gallon that has fish (6 small Angel fish, 1 i dunno, 2 SAE's) and putting it in my 45 to help bacteria (I do 30% water changes 3x weekly). I feed the fish frozen Brine Shrimp, frozen blood worms and some frozen vegtable stuff (all comes from the LFS) twice a day and they are growing very quickly.
I'd like to get the plant tank stable before I put my fish in it. Eventually I will phase out the 29 gallon. My question is what kinds of plants should I put in the 45? Since I have roughly 2 watts of light per gallon I will need low to medium light plants (the tank is 24" high so light intensity decreases dramatically).
Any thoughts on how to find the right plants? Should I order them online or from the LFS? (Petsmart has about 15-20 different kinds of plants that are all fairly common like Java Fern/moss, swords etc)
Any input on how to take the next step is appreciated
I will probably add home-brew CO2, but I'm still on the fence about this.
Thanks
