I left about 5 hours ago and my bettas fins were fine. I just got home and the tail fin looks "disintegrated". His fins have always been beautiful in the couple months I've had him. Anyone have any clue as to why this would happen? He is alone in a 6g no fake plants or sharp corners.

I've seen this before, not sure if it's a form of fin rot - you may want to do some research (Google should produce lots of results, check the forum as well). If it's fin rot, you'll need to treat him with medication, the sooner the better.
My betta died overnight and his fins appeared ...shattered. I wasn't sure if it was pre or post death. He was fine one day and dead the next, I posted here and none of us ever did sort out a finite reason for his death.

He's actually the betta in my avatar. See how good his fins are and then BAM! :( all torn up!

It doesn't have dark ends like fin rot, almost like I said disintegrated.
Can I treat him in his 6g Eclipse tank? I'm not sure that it's 100% cycled, although it's close.

Probably the Water / Water conditioner has gone wrong. I have had this happen to me too. Unfortunately the guy lasted only a week from then on :(

I had the same thing happen to my Betta. Thought it was fin rot but it died before I had a chance to treat it.

Some betta's do what is called "blowing a tail" they do that when there fisn get to big, veiltails aren't as prone to doing it, usually half moons and crowntails. Just trying to give ya hope. go to www.bettatalk.com, she's pretty good with her betta's and she might answer yer question

This is he is the only fish in a 6g. Can I just treat him in the tank he's in? I don't want to mess up the cycle of this tank. Should I unplug the filter while I treat him?

Is it possible the fins got caught by the filter intake?

I don't think so. The intake is near the bottom of the tank and he usually doesn't go down there. He's not sinking or anything now but he's being more sluggish. I just added some aqaurium salt. Just over a Tablespoon to my 6g. Anyone have a good suggestion on meds that have worked. :(
Would this affect my filter?

just take any carbon that you have in your filter out (if you have any). but dont turn the filter off!!!!
