Wow, I just bought two and came here to do a search on them. My local Walmart is featuring them as it's Fish-of-the-Month.

I didn't just buy them impulsively, I've been reading about them for some time, and this is what I've read:

A new variety of hybrid, possibly a cross between a severum and a red devil.

Some aquarists are critical of them, due to the fact that they are a essentially a 'man-made' fish; Marketers also appear to be dying them in various colors.

Despite being the progeny of agressive chiclids, they are a relatively peaceful fish, perhaps due to their small mouths and somewhat deformed body structure.

They can get quite large (4"-8"+), and they tend to stir up the substrate, so a tank of 40 gallons minimum with good filtration is recomendended for one or two; above 55 gallons, one fish for each ten gallons of water is suggested.

They do not seem to benefit particularly from keeping them in numbers, so a single specimen in a tank is probably ok.

They are not well-equipped to defend themselves, and should be kept in a species tank, or a community tank with other peaceful fish.

I know this isn't a politically correct fish, and I don't really care. They are fascinating to watch, as they combine all the cool cichlid behavior with a unique cuteness that just makes me want press my nose against the glass.

I hope I still feel the same way this time next year.

Umm...are we talking about saltwater parrotfish, or freshwater parrot cichlids?
