I know it's stretching it a bit to post this in General Freshwater, but I really wanted to share some happy news. I've been feeling so down lately with several family members in the hospital (my grandma's having heart trouble, but she's okay, my aunt has just been diagnosed with end-stage cancer) that this couldn't have come at a better time.
A week ago I walked into my favourite LPS, ended up having a great conversation with the manager of the fish department about everything from plants to shrimp to cichlids, and it turns out that at the same time as my work schedule lightens up (I work with students, it's the semester's end and summer work is usually more scarce), they need new people. He said I could come back with a resume, and I did that today - he hired me on the spot, I was so surprised! The job doesn't pay as much as my usual work, but I'm excited all the same - I'm hoping to gain experience with things like SW and types of fish I haven't kept. Yippee! :D

Congratulations Blinky! :dance2:

I worked at a LFS when I was a teen and it is still the best job I've ever had!

Have fun!

Amy

:thm: wow cool! got any deals yet? :idea2:

My lfs says I know more than most of the employees and make me answer some of the questions of the newbie's in the store. (thanks to people here of course)Too bad I'm full time at the hospital! Lucky duck U!

Sure Kas, it's not a secret :) PJ's in the Yorkdale mall. I like other stores, but every time I've spoken to staff there they're knowledgeable, willing to talk (some other stores feel less friendly), and seem to have the fishes' and customers' best interests at heart - for instance, I've gone to buy fish before and been advised to wait, because they were recently shipped.
I haven't started yet, they're going to work out a schedule and let me know when my first day is.
SF, staff get a discount - maybe now's the time to buy that 90g Oceanic package ;)

Sorry to hear about your family and congratulations on the job!!! Soon, you'll be an expert on ALL things fish :bowing: !!! Plus its great that it is a good store, I don't think I could work at a place that handed out goldfish in bowls!!

My first post ever

Congrats Blinky!!... That PJ's is my LFS! I live by the Wilson-Dufferin area... I just started this hobby a little over a month ago, I'm on day #40 of my cycling with Fishies. Maybe one of these days I'll see you at PJ's (when my cycle is finished) when I go to get some more fish. Guppies this weekend where very nice there. First time I see so many beautifull females!

PS: Sorry about your grandma and aunt, I lost my grandpa two weeks ago...
