Is there such a thing as vacuuming too much? At the moment I do a quick vacuum every other day and on Saturdays I do a thorough vacuum along with a 10 - 20% water change. I sthis too much?

The cleaner, the better! You will keep water in better quality with the way you are doing things. Way to go!:)

The only time you will run into a problem is with very delicate fish. Many will not appreciate large changes of 50% or more of your water. Many Tanganyikan cichlids do not fare well with large changes. Most fish will be fine with daily changes even. You just have to educate yourself on a fish before you buy it.

I only have Bloofin Tetras and CAE's.

And the poster did specify 10-20% changes. Most fish are better for more water changes rather than less. The exceptions are few.
I think it is an excellent program and wish my care were closer to that.

I was just trying to answer the initial question. I think what I posted did answer the question. I am tired of people complaining when people try to answer questions around here and extrapolate a bit too much. Some of the good people are leaving this site. And, I am beginning to think for good reason. RTR take over. See you later....maybe.

as long as you enjoy changing water and vacuuming, go for it! 10-20% water changes every 2 weeks or so should be sufficient, but it depends on how big the tank is and how many fish you have, too....a 10 gallon tank can get pretty crappy in a short period of time, but an 80 gallon will be more forgiving......once the newness of doing tank maintenance wears off, you'll find a schedule that works well for you and your fish...2 or 3 times a week would be way more work than I'd want to do!!
