I'm starting a 20g reef based around a jawfish. it currently contains 30# of LS and 20# of LR. Well I would like to get an ECONOMICAL skimmer for this tank. I ordered a visi-jet from Big Als but it seems too big. Only major modification of my hood system and rearrangement would it fit. I currently have 2 402 powerhead and plan on making a mini refugium out of a Aquaclear 500. so the space in the back is limited. Do you folks have any suggestions for a skimmer?

I'd go with a regular Red Sea Prizm. Shop around; you can usually find them online for $60-70 pretty easily. Cheaper skimmers - Visi-Jets, Skilters, Lee's - all suck and are pretty much a waste of money when a little more could have bought you something decent.

what about JB 180 or Seaclones? Are these any good? Are they noisy or really big? I would like one that requires minimal clearance above the tank lip.

seaclowns are awful. They produce very few bubbles, and the "swirling" action they sprought out about actually makes it less efficient.
