New Tank. Need Options

I just purchased a 20 gal long. It's the largest I could have in my apartment. Anyways I purchased the tank only, and I need suggestions for a nice hood and filter. It is going to be a freshwater planted tank. I would like to keep the lighting to somewhere around 2 wpg. Haven't decided what I am going to put in there just yet but I have time. Thanks in advance.

I would get a 30" glass canopy, double strip flourescent light, and an AquaClear 50. The 30" double strip light has 2 24" bulbs at 20 watts each, that would give you 2 wpg.

I've only had a couple of different types of filters, but I really like the penguin biowheel filter that I have as opposed to the aquaclear filter I have.
 
where is a good place to buy a double strip flourescent light? I tried some of the lfs around town but no one stocks one. I haven't asked to see if they could order one but it will probally be cheaper to but one online anyways. Thanks

I would get an Eclipse 3 hood for that tank. It'll give you 2 wpg, it has two 20w bulbs in it, and it's easy maintenance (just replace the filter pad every 2-4 weeks). It also has 2 water flow controllers, and a biowheel.

When I get a 20L I'll be using an Eclipse 3 for it.

ok. while I am still a ways away from even having any fish in my tank, I am already researching fish to put in the tank. The blue dwarf Gourami is what I am considering as being a centerpiece fish. Well at least a pair of them. Anyways what would be some good options for tank mates. Keep in mind that this is a 20 gal long. Thanks

One thing you could do is to go to your LFS, or wherever you will get your fish from, see what they have that interests you and do some research or post your ideas on here! I hear of such cool fish on here, and my LFS doesn't have alot of them! That way you get options that you can actually go buy! Some sort of schooling fish might be nice with a couple of centerpiece fish, maybe some tetras? There are lots of different kinds/colors.
 
I have an All-Glass single strip light and hood for my 20 gallon high that I've had since I got the tank in 1994.

All-glass makes decent hoods and lights IMHO.

Penguin makes some decent biowheel filters and I use Tetra filters also.

I have 3 Tetra Whisper filters of different types and one Penguin biowheel on my tanks.
 
As of last night I am the proud new owner of an Eclipse 3 hood :clap:. All I need now is cycle my tank and decide on fish. As stated above I need some options for tank mates for some dwarf gouramis. Thanks
