Leaning slate on tank side

I was inspired by a post here on using slate tiles for aquarium decoration. I went to Home Depot, got a slate tile, smashed it up, sanded the pieces I wanted and put them in my tank. I have one fairly large leftover piece that I would like to place leaning in a corner of the tank or leaning over my heater so that it does not show. Is this safe? To give you an idea of the size on the slate section, I offer the following photograph.

NOTE: The ruler is calibrated in centimetres and the slate is around 1 centimetre thick.

I would'nt let it touch the heater, but if you can rig something up and the water circulation is good behind it , it would hide the heater well. If you have angelfish, they would like it too . The female likes to lay eggs on an angled piece of slate. Good luck
 
Apparently my scale is busted but I would be surprised if the piece even weighed a full pound.
