What will happen to my plants if my phosphates are really high, is it a serious problem?

It will depend on other factors but algae could become a problem. What's your phosphate reading

How high is 'really high'? AFAIK, if things are well-balanced and plants are growing well (assuming heavily planted tank), PO4 over the usual 0.5-1ppm isn't too much of a factor - I've read some posts on planted forums where people have levels as high as 3ppm without any algae problems. I'm still getting a handle on ferts and water chemistry, but from everything I've read the key to keeping algae away is balanced nutrients, making sure the plants get everything they need for optimum health/growth.

well my levels are over 10ppm, I'm not sure why they are that way, but the product I have must be labeled wrong, cause this is insane, the water is supposed to be blue in the test kit, well mine is black!

I would try to get phosphates down a litttle more. They seem to be abnormaly high, what are you adding to the tank? Have you checked you tap water for phosphates? Although it seems hard to believe that that is where they are comming from.

yes i have, and no its not the tap, its this product flourish phosphorus, it says only to add a little, but i dont think it warns you enough, lol. I've been taking it slowly though and the levels are dropping.
