Please help me troubleshoot! I am not mechanically oriented at all. I have an Eheim 2028 Pro and just finished cleaning the filter. I cannot get it to prime. I haven't had any problems before, I've checked all connections, taken it apart and put it back together 20 times. Please let me know of any suggestions you might have from your experiences. Thanks so much in advance! :rant2: :rant2: :rant2: :rant2: :rant2:

First, the water level in the fish tank needs to be within about 4 inches of the top of the tank, the prime button can only move the water about 4 inches. So, don't bother pushing the prime button until the tank is full.

Next, be sure that there is no loops in the inlet line that trap air. The prime button has to be able to move all the air all the way to the tank, if there is a slug of water in a loop, it won't move the water in the tank.

Finally, you need to lube the button really well, yet there is not really a good way to do that. The gap is very small and too small for a q-tip, but a pipe cleaner is too weak to push in with lube on it.

Most likely it is a loop in your line.

Also, best to do this with the canister empty. If you fill it, you may interfere with the primer.

I find it best, when having any sort of trouble, to drain both the inlet and the outlet lines by manually opening the valves and shooting water into a bucket. Any air in the inlet line will be removed that way and either it will go dry or it will expell all trapped air. If you have a loop, just unloop it so the air isn't trapped. Empty the canister and you are good to go, either the inlet is wet and it primes itself, or the inlet is dry and the primer works fine.

Thank you so much for your very informative reply. I have already printed it off for future reference! I tried all of your suggestions and got it primed and running. Don't know which one worked but the important thing is that it's running. I can always depend on AC for help!
