Which fish ,in your experience, eats mosquito larvae the best in outdoor ponds?

I don't think mosquitofish are all they are claimed to be as bug eaters despite being a favorite fish of mine.

Mine mosquitofish have generally been great bug eaters. Anything hit that pond water and they would swarm it. Guppies and White clouds I've also had great luck with.

Though right now I'm using Tuffies and Goldfish because I've been too lazy to empty the pond out and clean it yet this year. :o

My goldfish and blue gills take care of any bug that hits the surface of my pond - I haven't heard of any problems with mosquito fish not doing their job from other pond owners that use them. That's interesting. Also, good pond circulation/movement will go a long way in not allowing mosquitos to breed.

The best fish i head of that eats mosquitos, eggs , larva etc are guppies. I once read that there was a project in Florida with these fish . The mosquito population was out of control . So they stocked the everglades etc with guppies. HTH

Actually, Florida contains the Mosquito fish, Gambusia Affinis holbrooki, the females look very similar to a guppy but much larger. But they are voracious eaters and have been introduced all over the world as bug control that has gotten out of hand.
