This may be a strange request, just wondering if anyone knows of a method of treating bruises to make them less painful and / or visible.
Last night, I slipped on some water on our hardwood floor (our dog tends to leave a lot of water on the floor after he has a drink) and got some pretty bad bruises. One is on my chin and hurts quite a bit, if there are any ways to make it feel better I'd love to know. Thanks :)

less visible = Make-up
less painful = ice and Acetaminophen--non-aspirin

Sublime has put it fairly well.
Use cold initially to constrict the injured area to lessen more blood into the subcutaneous tissue. Aspirin has anticoagulant properties...use Tylenol.
After the first 24-48 hrs use warm moist heat to area to help increase circulation to resolve the bruising.
The make-up thing is the quick fix for sure. They usually get more colorful before they go away.

Thanks for your help guys :)
I had ice on my chin right away, so it's not too swollen, but it's starting to colour up. I took some Tylenol this evening, it's surprising how much it still hurts after 24h. Thanks for the tip about heat, I hadn't thought of that - I bet in addition to helping get rid of the bruise it'll feel good too :)

I've heard that Witch Hazel and Epsom salts are good for treating bruises as well.

My bruises usually start off the typical purplish color but then turn a sickly looking yellow for a few days.

I can't say I've had many bruises in my life. I think I'd literally have to fall from the top of a tree and land on every limb I can find to have bruises. Some say that is a good thing, I don’t know what difference it makes. I guess it's nice not having visible bruises, but I still feel pain like everyone else, trust me! Maybe I'm the alien. :D
But I guess a good preventative measure for making sure you don't bruise all over, is to eat bananas or foods with potassium in them. I do have a high potassium diet (I eat fruits, veges, and drink juices), so maybe that helps with the bruises?

Well, I don't have a scientific study of anything to support my comments, just observations from years of working home health.
We draw a blood test on a lot of patients to measure the effectiveness of a blood thinner that people are put on for cardiac or circulatory problems. The medication has to be adjusted to keep it within a therpautic range of length of time to clot. It always seems in the summer, especially when tomatoes and other fresh fruits and veggies are in season that people have to take increasing doses of the medicine to keep their clotting times as long as theraputically necessary. Not all of them, but it happens enough to make you wonder. And the agent to counteract too much of the anticoagulant in your system is vitamin K.
So there could be something with that, aquariumfishguy!
