Simple algae question (temp related?)

Does temp have anything to do with the proliferation of algae?
Does algae (green carpet algae) grow better at higher or lower temps?
Have a 20g long that is well planted, but green carpet has a good foothold in there, and I am curious if lowering the temp may make it easier on the plants to compete. Right now it is at 76, thinking of going to around 71 or so.

I'm sure that algae, like most living things, has a preference for a certain temperature range. However, I've seen some unheated tanks with serious algae problems. I've also never heard of using temperature to control algae. If only it was that easy......

Mike - give us more information on your tank (parameters) and what kind of algae you are experiencing. 'Green Carpet' doesn't help me at all. Check the stickies on algae and ID the algae you have.
Temperature is most likely not the reason for algae issues. Something in the tank is out of balance.
