Hey, I was wondering what the min requirements are if I wanted a tank to hold plants that have outgrown my 5.5g. Would a couple inches of gravel and lighting be enough? Might put some amano shrimp in there too, so would I need a filter if I do weekly water changes? Not sure about a heater either. It'd probably be in my basement, and it's around 68-70degrees down there. Would it even need water changes and a filter if I kept only plants in there? Thanks!

lI have a plant only 5.5g with 13w of light, and a heater. It works great as a holding tank, untill I can sell back my plats to my LFS.

I'd use a filter or something else like a powerhead for circulation to prevent the water from stagnating and layering (cold on the bottom, warm on top). You'll still want to do water changes, to replenish the nutrients like Ca, Mg, etc. that plants can get from tap water. I'd also use a heater, since most of the plants available are tropical and will probably do best at the same temps as tropical fish.
