i wanna get some to house my future guppy fry, but i can't find any pics of just java moss. all i see is tanks with tons of other plants. which makes it hard to find it, cuz i dont know what it looks like! can yal find me some pics of JUST java moss? and wont it grow on almost anything?

Here's a nice site for moss

http://www.nature-aquarium.com/xmas.htm

I found that using a hair net and some fishing line to tie it to a piece of bogwood or lava rock works best. It grows really quickly so as long as you have it poking out of the net nicely it'll hide it in no time.
Then, after a few months I pulled the hair net off and really trimmed the moss back, and it looked really pretty. A thin layer of moss firmly rooted in.
But if you want it for hiding babies in then just leave it alone to grow all bushy.

Don't suppose you would be anywhere near to central IL?? I have some to spare!

Just wanted to add..there is someone down in the classified section selling java moss.

I usually see it on ebay, you could try there.
By the way do fish eat java moss, and does it affect the water conditions in any way?

Never seen any of my fish eat it. and It does'nt effect water conditions any more than any other plants. It's good for producing O2

Nursie, I just received some Java moss from far away, it was in the mail for 3 days and travelled incredibly well. When I opened the package it was bright green, no dead spots, and it seems to be doing well in the tank so far. Just thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to mail some to mr.amateur45 :)

Does it use up nitrates at all like normal plants would? (I hope I'm not taking over the thread here!!! I apologize!!!)

Don't By this crap off Ebay,,,,,,,I'll let you in on a little secrete, a 1 pound butter bowl full of this stuff only weighs 2ounces at most and shipping it for 5.00 bucks is a plain old rip......ask your LFS to get some in, should cost you less then 2 bucks.
