What to put in 27gallon hex aquarium?

Im about to redo my 27 gallon aquarium and i want to know what kind of fish combinations i can put in it. Im aware I cannot have many fish but i would like the most i can get in it.

I was hoping maybe there were some kind of small cichlids i could put in it, but im starting to think that might not work. Anyone else have ideas?
 
maybe a species pair of shellies and a pair of peacocks. This just might work, if you do make sure it's a mile temper Aulonocara. Like stuartgranti or sp. Rubescens.
 
How about turning it into a planted tank with a pair of Golden Rams,Mikrogeophagus ramirezi.

what about a trio of dwarf cockatoo cichlids? male two female.
