You know, after they molt, or shed, or whatever the correct terminology is. Anyways, will they eat it or does it just rot? I've personally never seen mine do it, but then again, I'm none to experienced either. Thanks.

I've seen my ghost shrimp doing it. I can only assume Amanoes do too. I assume its like most anything that sheds its skin. Snakes, frogs, bugs, etc all eat their sheddings because they're packed full of calcium and other nutrients.

No, shrimp won't eat their OWN shell as far as I know, because most shrimps/crawfish lose the ability to eat when they molt.

Also, frogs don't shed or molt!

shrimp do eat their molt, its full of goodness for them. they eat it after they molt while waiting for new shell to harden.

Oddball - Aquatic frogs is what I meant, and yes they shed.

I've seen my shrimp eating its exoskeleton, so I have to disagree there. I'm not saying they ate it within 5 minutes, but I know they do.

Oh, eheh aquatic frogs do shed.. hehe.

Yes, Amanos do eat their cast-off shell, but only after the new one has hardened a bit.

Haha! I am right! They can't eat without a hardened shell! ;)

cool, thanks everyone. I know ghost shrimp will eat their exoskeleton, I've seen it. I just wasn't sure if the amano would since they are vegetatians as opposed to the opportunistic ghost shrimp.
