Hi want to replace my 10k mh bulb with something a bit more blue any suggestions on who makes the best bulb>10k. I am of course reffering to 14 or 20k bulbs, but just don't know who makes the best quality, life, color and accurate spectral output. I meen I am not looking for my tank to look like someone is flashing a light through a smurf but a bit more blue would be much nicer. I have a coral vue right now, more bottom of the barrel light than I had anticipated when purchasing, but again looking for the best if anyone can stear me in the right direction would really appreciate it.

Thanks Tom-

Although they were having some quality control issues in the past, XM now gets very good reviews.

Joe Burger has a good review of PAR values of various 250 watt bulbs, and some photos of their appearance at http://www.cnidarianreef.com/ . It's one of the links under the coral photo on the right side of the homepage.

Sanjay Joshi has done an exhastive look at the spectra of 250 and 400 watt lamps in a series of articles in Advanced Aquarist. It's not indexed all that well, but you can find tons of info with a little hunting.

Burger and Joshi gave Coralvue pretty lousy reviews, and their spectrum is apparently not even that close to 10000 K. I bet you'll be a lot happier when you get new lamps.
