Tank Problem

OK, I have a mixed tank...several africans, and...

a small Texas Cichlid and a Silver Pacu. For whatever reason, the Texas targets the Pacu like a bat out of hell. He has no aggression towards the other fish, just the Pacu. It's disturbing to watch. He has successfully nipped the Pacu's side fins off, and the Pacu has trouble floating still and upright. It's really sad. All the fish are eating feeders, including the Pacu.

There's also 2 Hap. Compressiceps that roam the top portion of the tank. The Texas never goes near them, for good reason. I will research the other Africans' names because I want to know if it's rare that those fish are eating feeders at such a young age...none of them are over 4 inches.

Any info or advice would be appreciated!

how big is the pacu?
how big is the tank?
What are water parameters?

another question:

What kind of filter do you have on the tank?
How many total fish are in your tank?
How often do you feed feeders and what else do you feed your fish?

From what i can see so far you will have a dangerously overcrowded tank :( . i keep 2 red-bellied pacus, an they are WAY WAY to big for my tank right now. but the reason the texas is nipping the pacu is that the texas is a very fast fish and so is the pacu (normally, but not anymore in your case), the texas chases the pacu because your Hap. Compressiceps chase the texas and the texas is only left with taking his aggression out on the pacu, another reason is that the tank is way too small for all those fish and that just makes the aggression increase exponentially since all fish have smaller terroritories and are forced to fight over terroritories. also to make matters worse you have a mixed tank with fish with 3 different water requirements. the africans (from africa), texas (from texas and northeastern mexico) and the pacu (Amazon river basin). this is never a good idea and will only lead to disease in the fish in the future. the pacu and texas both like neutral water and the africans like alkaline (pH).

for the kind of fish that i know you have (4 total so far) i would recommend at the very least a 125g tank .

i bought my pacus about 7 months ago and they are already 8-9", they seemto grow about 1" per month. and pacus can get up to 24" and have been reported to get up to 36" and 65lbs.

Sorry about all the questions.

:( :( :(

thanks

Thanks very much for the info and advice! I think you're right, my tank is overcrowded. I'm going to take some of my fish back to the store, actually, all the non-africans.

Filter - AquaClear 200
Total Fish - about 8
Feed Feeders - 2x/week

The texas never had an incident with the Compressiceps, he just is relentless, day and night, on the Pacu.
