how thick of acrylic

Hey whats up i'm wanting to make my own tank but not sure on how thick to make the sides i want to make it at least 6 foot long and 2 foot wide and 2 feet high how thick would i have to go and would it be better to use glass or acrylic. If any one has any plans from old tanks you belt could i see them just to get some pointers and if any one no any it would be help ful thanks
