Once upon a time I used to keep fresh water fish. For the last several years though I've been keeping salt and reef tanks. Recently a buddy of mine gave me a 20 high stand and the works when he went to FL. As he put there was still a chunk of visable wall in my fish room and we can't have that now can we?
I thought that I'd try something a little new for me a very different. I had my lfs order me some annual killi fish eggs. I followed the directions I found on line and from the lfs to the letter and had 2 babies hatch! They lived for about 3 days and passed away while I was at work. I really don't think that I did anything wrong I put peat in the container kept the ph around 6 water temp at 73.5 to 76 f .
I'm thinking now of tearing the whole works down and trying something a little easier maybe? Any suggestions I like the shell dwelling cichlids but, I want success without a whole peck of problems.
Thank you in advance
Chris

A 20-high is not a great tank for cichlids because most cichlids need long tanks. You could probably have a pair of angels in your tank though.

To be honest I want something a little less common than Angels . They are nice fish but, they get fairly big . I didn't think that the 20 would hold them comfortably when they were adults and I won't be getting a larger f.w. tank unless I get that 250 anyway. If I do that I'll move everyone up a size then I'd consider angels or discus,"in a 50". I may not be thinking about this the right way though, like I said I'm really used to s.w. ," when my ph hit 6 in the killi tank I freaked out for a second lol."

You might be able to have some Freshwater shrimp such as bamboo shrimp. Then you could have a school of tetras for the top of the tank.

Why don't you try some of the smaller african cichlids they love hard water if you are going to use crushed coral as substrate, some can pretty aggresive so be careful with what you choose. Probably could not have very many though because it not the best size tank for cichids. But it is a thought.
