Hello All:

As I prepare to set up my first ever tank, I was told to first wash out my tank using only water and a soft sponge. Well, the only sponges I can find all say, "Not for aquarium use." I am guessing it is due to a antimicrobial additive.

So, what can I use instead? Are paper towels fine?

Thanks!

feel free to use paper towels. If you can fit the tank in your bathtub, I'd wash it there. Super easy

Paper towels are just fine :)
I'm a huge fan of Bounty myself - they're tough paper towels so you don't have to worry about them breaking into annoying teeny pieces in the water, and are virtually lint-free.
When washing out new tanks, I usually use a salt solution, then rinse well. It's very dirty/dusty or you have reason to worry about bacteria inside the tank (for instance with a used tank), it's a good idea to rinse the tank out with a mild bleach solution followed by a thorough rinse.
