I am in the process of seting up a Lake Tanganyika 20 gal. tank. I've read a lot of threads about the substrate used. Most seem to be using a lot of crushed corral. So my question is this. Here in Alberta, most, if not all the rocks contain a lot of lime stone. Like when you drop some acid on it the rock will fizz a lot. Lots of lime with some calcite and such. A no, no for a tropical community tank. How about the Tang. tank? Since coral is limestone anyway? Isn't it? Any geologists out there?

Thanks.

Your Rocks will be just fine for that tank. It will help to raise and buffer the pH. Don't forget lake Tangyanika has a pH of about 9. So your water should be very hard and high in pH for them. If you use chrushed coral as substrate make sure it's fine coarse like sand. Also you can use regular play sand along with the limestone rocks and you will save some money.
