My female P. elongatus had been holding eggs for approx. 3 week. This was her first clutch. I noticed her throat was not extended anymore and was not sure if they hatched or she ate them. During the normal once a day feeding she started to eat but very little. Yesterday she was dead in the tank. Did she starve to death?

Checked water and it looks good to me. I did add some Algea Fix to get rid of the algea that started growing on my rocks. I just don't like the look of it.
temp 78
ph 8.2
chlorine 0 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
ammonia 0 pmm
nitrate 20 ppm

Thanks
Pat

Often with mbuna, a female will be hounded by a male even when the female is holding. This is particularly problematic when she is the only female of that species; she gets all the attention. When the female is holding eggs and not eating, she becomes less able to deal with the harrassment and it often ends in her death.

Many of us try to avoid this by keeping 3-4 females per male. You can also remove the female to a different tank until after she's eating again.

Sorry about your loss..

Jim
