Just curious if anyoen ever bred any in their home. I have 4 in my 20 gallon tank, they've been in it for only about 3 days together. Is it possible they will ever lay eggs?
Yes, it is possible provided you've got some male and females. I bought some (well 75...but i only paid for 25) and put most in the 55g and 6 in the 10g planted. I ended up getting a second generation out of them without even trying
You'll be able to see when a female is carrying eggs. They get huge
When i buy my ghost shrimp, ($.10) i almost aways get some that alredy have eggs in them, you can see them they are a bunch of little green balls inside of the shrimp, and in like a week you will have lots of little ones swimming around, they work great for feeders because they breed a lot. Also i had 1 in a 10g tank for a while, all by himself and all of a sudden there were like 20 of the little guys, so maybe they can keep having babies even after males have been removed.
I think the "trick" is getting the ghost shrimps that would stay alive for you. Some of the shrimps seem to be brackist that would die after awhile in our fresh water tanks. However, if you happen to get a batch that is pure fresh water, and with enough hiding place in the tanks, they will stay alive long a have plenty of baby shrimps for you.
