I might be getting ahold of 2 tanks that are on a single metal stand. What im wondering is how are you supposed to clean the tank on the bottom? I got a python system but the tube is pretty tall and i dont see how i would be able to use it to change water or even clean the gravel. Any advice from someone with a similar setup?

Right now I've got a 10 gallon tank on the bottom of a metal stand holding a 16 gallon tank, and in the past I've used a 20 gallon long on the bottom of a stand holding a 29 galon tank. I find that the ~10" of clearance above the lower tank is plenty of room for maintenance.

My first tank setup was two tanks on a metal stand. I'm not using anyright now, but do have several two-tanks wooden stands, same principle. I also use the Python, but I do have three gravel vac tubes of varying lengths. These are available, but many be special order or mail order.

I have four like that (2 sets of 2). The bottom tank is only about 2.5" inches off of the floor though, so syphoning goes very slow and you must empty the bucket halfway if you want to do a large water change. There is about 14" between the top tank and the bottom. I've never had an issue with my tube being too big. The one I use most is the standard one thats like 12" or something. Unless the tube is taller than the height of a tank and the space between them combined, there should be no problem.

10 g on bottom

i have a 10 g Q tank on the bottom of a 29 g stand and when I do a water change I just use a 1/2" tubing to siphon it iinto a large bucket, the siphon will stop when the water level is the same in both containers, but it is very slow. I know that the 10 can get to about 50% down and the bucket will not be full, so I just walk away and let it go until it stops.
