what do you think the best filter for a 55 gallon tank is rite now im using a whisper and i was thinking about getting a h.o.t magnum are those any good

My father-in-law has been using a HOT magnum on a 55 gallon SW tank for 8 years non-stop.
He's had no problems with it. He also runs two power heads on an under gravel filter too, in the same tank.

I would go with an kind of canister filter. I recoment Eheims and FilStarts, because the are easy to use, and the are all around good filters.
My 55g non-planted has an Aqua Clear 500 and a Penguin 350 on it. I'm very pleased with the combination.
With long tanks I like the idea of 2 filters as it spreads out the flow and leaves very few, if any, dead spots. If you do add a HOT Magnum then I would leave the Whisper as well. Or add a canister for variation or any other HOB filter.
I too am running a whisper on my 55g and would like to add a second HOB filter. Anyone have any suggestions as to which HOB would work well with my Whisper?

Having 2 of the same is a good idea as you can switch filter media between the 2. But really any quality second filter will work fine be it an Aqua Clear, A Canister, A HOT Magnum etc....
ya i was thinking about using another one with my whisper but i was just dunno which one is best so im thinking about gettin a hot magnum but i might get the peguin how well do they work
