My husband bought me a gold nugget pleco last night. I have been checking different sites trying to identify it. I am pretty sure it is a LO81. Any advice on caring for this fish? It is absolutley gorgeous.

Is it in your quarantine tank now? Its best to quarantine plecos first before introducing it to your main tank since many of them are wild caught. It might not start to eat yet but dont worry just give it a few days to settle down to the new tank.

I don't have a quarentine tank so it is in my main tank. I have had my eye on him at the LFS for about 4.5 weeks. He has grown and was eating well since they brought him in. I visit the LFS about 3 times a week and there has been no disease in the tank he came from.

If s/he's eating well, you're over hurdle #1 :D
GNs need a fairly meaty diet, along with things like algae wafers and zuchinni you could try shrimp (from the grocery store) and frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, krill, etc. I did some reading before I bought my little guy, and discovered that in the wild they sift through the substrate looking for little critters hiding in the sand.
Like other plecs, GNs need some bogwood or driftwood in the tank as well, it's important as part of their diet.
If your new addition has access to some wood, a varied diet and a nice warm tank (80F +), I'm sure s/he'll do well :)

I have a picture of this guy via link in a post under general freshwater. Does he look like a LO81 to you guys?
