Has anyone ever kept one of these? Are they even fish? They are one of the coolest fish I have seen. I read that they like to climb out of the water to sunbathe. I have never seen them in a fish store but saw one in a book the other day. Does anyone know where to find them?

All species of the genus Anableps need at least a 60" by 20" foot print (bigger if possible) brackish (above 1.011) tank with at least two rest stations, one at the surface and one an inch or two under the surface. A cover is needed because they like to jump. lots of waterchanges and filter cleanings needed because of the feeding habits which cause them to ignore food that has fallen to the bottom.

Unless you have your heart set on them I would think a mudskipper would be a better pet if you are going to provide those types of conditions.

i see them regularly, where do you live? i just dont have the tank setup for them, maybe if i get a kiddie pool.
