of course she was born in Russia and didn't move here until she was 12...
Go Miss Canada/Russia lady. A true Miss Universe as Canada and Russia make up most of the Earth's land mass so that seems like we should have won on that alone.

Oh Canadians.... I find it kinda funny the way that you rally around the smallest of events. Okay, that sounded a little mean. I didn't mean it that way. I just got a little chuckle when I saw all of the happiness going on for this topic....

americans are pretty jaded, we have so many contests we could have a contest to see what the best contest is. I know a bunch of other countrys that would be alot more excited to have someone from thier contry win one of these. I think the attempts to give the question answers in english hurt some of the contestants. Looking back I wonder if the questions were all known and each contestant simply memorized an answer to each. just because english is spoken by alot of people doesn't mean they have to answer in english.

They arnt Indian. Indians live in India. They are called First Nations. Dont ask how I know all that.
If you want to get really technical they prefer the word aboriginal.
I thought the correct term was Inuit?
Inuit is for up North. Aborigonal and First Nation are both accepted terms, with First Nations being the newer term. I have worked enough museums to leanr that. Of course the government still has a Minister of Indian Affairs.

First Nations people were the people living here before the Europenas came over to North America. Inuit (meaning people?) people are from the artic, and they still live there. The goverment is dumb :sim:

I agree, no I don't actually watch this stuff, didn't even know it was goin' on until I read this thread and its companion.
I hear you about awards banquets, they're nice in principle, you know, to be recognized for excellence in your field for excellence. But they don't need to be televised, IME. But that's just me, I don't think that I speak for a majority on this one. As I posted in the "War of the Worlds" thread, I don't care about the personal lives of the stars, and that extends to awards. All I care about is that they make entertaining movies. I'm glad that there's a platform for them to recognise talent, but from what I've seen in the little bits of awards shows that I've seen (usually at the urging of girlfriend/wife ;) ) they tend to be more political then talent based. But more importantly, I don't care if someone's an Oscar winner or not, how many movies have you seen staring "Oscar nominee/winner 'insert name' " that completely sucked? Plenty, no doubt.
Of course, that's just an example. I've never been a fan of awards ceremonies, even when I was a recipitent. They usally involve a lot of sitting around, maybe there's a brief moment of interest if there's a good speaker, then you get your brief moment (or let down) and back to waiting for the danged thing to end.
