Tomorrow I am removing the 5 angels from my overstocked 26 gal tank. Remaining will be a 3 inch (full grown) catfish, 2 small glass catfish (about 3 inches - haven't grown in a year) and a 2 inch Chinese Butterfly Loach.

I would love to stock the tank with some sort of knife fish. My only concern was their adult size. I have only looked at a few, and they seem to have fairly large requirements (~100 gals). Can anyone recommend a knife that would work out in this aquarium?

Also, just any suggestions on some docile fish would be greatly appreciated =)

Did you convert your filter to a sponge yet?

Well...I was originally thinking about a black ghost knife, but then realized those grew quite large (though supposedly rarely over 8" in home aquarium - still too big for 26 gal.) Then I though about clowns, but again, those are large. Right now, the only knife I know of that would be a possibility would be an african knife, but I'm just not sure.

I posted this to see what other's may know of/about that might lead me to a knife.

Right...here's what I'm looking at for now:

6-8 cardinal tetras
2 dwarf guaramis

too much?

If you get two male dwarf gouramis, you will have territory issues, and one will probably kill the other one eventually. Female dwarf gouramis are becoming rather common here in SoCal lately, possibly in other places?

Wal-Mart has a lot of females, but walmarts that have good staff and clean tanks (not to mention good, healthy looking fish) are very hard to come by.

Cardinals are the perfect 'scooling' fish for smaller tanks IMO, because they tend to hover rather than swim all over the tank. I say 'schooling' because they really hang out in loose groups, forming up only when there is a possible threat swimming about.

Glass catfish definetely prefer to be in groups. Try to get two more. They will be much happier that way. You also might want to add a pair of rams. Very interesting and colourful fish.

you Know theres a type of Knive that you can get from the super market, You dont have to worry a bout size issues cause they stay the same size alll there life.

What's that Flaggy, a butter knife?
