Since I posted about my skunk cleaner, I lost my fire shrimp and had to take the coral banded back to the store. I caught him this morning, snacking on the front of my fireshrimp. I broke it up, took the fire shrimp out and put him in a bowl here. Eventually collected the coral banded shrimp out and put the fire back in. Went to the fish store and got a net thingy to put my fire shrimp in hoping he would somehow heal. When I got back my crab was eating him. I am so upset. Now there are no shrimp at all in there. I am scared of getting more, I don't want anyone else getting eaten. I was wondering about the sexy shrimp but I thought I read they can be agressive. I am going to read more about them. I'd like to get another skunk cleaner or two and another fire shrimp or two. I'm just afraid to put anything else in there. While at the lfs, he just got a bunch of baby blue hippo tangs. I'm considering that. I would really like to get some more fish in there but I am still not sure exactly what. none of the fish I originally got the tank for are acceptable to put in there, so I am in a rut. any ideas on what shrimp will be peaceful with one another? The blue hippo, will he do ok? 75 gl with a tang, damse4l and 2 clowns. Also two emerald green crabs. I do think I got rid of the murdering culprit, the coral banded, but after seeing my crab chowing down on the fireshrimp I got nervous. I am thinking that they just saw the weakness, half dead one and figured he was fair game. I couldn't bear to watch my fire shrimp getting eaten, made sure to get him out. My husband had to fight with the crab to get him.

Hmmm..... fire shrimp aren't wusses, I dunno if something killed it or if it died for another reason. What are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrates, pH, etc....)?

I personally would not add a hippo tank to the tank if you already have a tang of some sort, you may end up with a squabble and another expensive meal for your emerald crab.

I'd recommend also that you pick up a good book on saltwater fishes, either at the lfs or at the library. Read as much as you can, plenty of fantastic info out there to read on the toilet (oops did I say that?)

LOL and redflag the book afterwards! I've read a few different books, may be a bit out dated though and have done most of my research online. The tank seems so lonely without my shrimps. The fire shrimp was doing well, the cbs always went after him and he finally caught him. All of my parameters have been excellant. We haven't had to do much other than water changes every two weeks. I was under the impression that a blue hippo and the yellow would get along fine? My emerald green crabs, the one is getting pretty big but I have not seen any aggression toward the fish. After I put the yellow tang in there he seemed to grab at him, but I think it was because he was new and curious. . The crab did eat the shimp after he had died or was dieing. the cbs took care of that. I'm just at a loss now as to what other kind of fish to get. I haven't added anything new since the yellow tang. Theres only the tang, 2 clown and a scooter blenny in there. Also, would getting the porcupine puffer or dog face puffer be ok with other fish? If not what type of fish would they get along with? I was just wondering if they would be ok with out having the shrimp in there as I knw they do eat them. I'm going to hit the fish store soon enough and get the one book that was recommended to me I think.
