Test Kits:

i have an aqua phar. ph test that came with ph up and down.

going to the LFS tomorrow, gotta double check what i need

nitrite
nitrate
kh
ammonia?

should i be looking for test strips or tests like the ph with a vial and solution?

Algae:

the dreaded green algae is on the loose,

it's mostly on the glass and old growth leaves, none on the flourite and the only plant that hasn't been affected is a
large boivinianus, which has grown easily double it's size since i started the tank on 1/15

the crypts have been forming new leaves at the nodes, but after a few days they turn brownish and have to trim them.

two small vals look like they're slowly goin, even the hornwort is starting to lose color.

i'm gonna pick up a few otto cats but any other advice i'd appreciate.

Here is my Primer on Test Kits for the Planted Tank http://www.brainyday.com/jared/aquarium/testkits.htm

IMO the liquid kits are more precise and economical than the test strips.

Liquid Test kits are more on target, then strips

7.6 ph or the last one on the chart so it could be higher

0ppm ammonia

0ppm Nitrite

i picked up 6 otto cats and 2 cory cats hopefully they will combat the algae
