My husband and I will be purchasing a 35 gallon hexagonal tank soon and we could really use some stocking suggestions. My husband would like an angelfish, but other than that, we haven't decided what we will be doing with this tank after it (fishlessly) cycles. Any ideas would be quite welcome.

A pair of fancy angelfish and some corries would be cool..

:thm:

After our fishless cycling is complete, should I stock the cories first? I have one emerald cory in my 29 gallon tank, so I would like to acquire some friends for him and move them all into the hex tank.

Id get 2 angels, 3 more emerald cories 3 rams or mollies and a mini pleco. Mini pleco isnt the correct name but there are some spiecies that only grow to about 5" and produce less waste. They are pretty common and do an amazing job of removing algae.

Some may say this is over stocked but these fish don't produce much waste (atleast not compared to my oscars!).

Just keep in mind....don't stock your Hex...the same as you would a normal 35g....as the surface area is much less. That is the reason why I didn't upgrade my 20g to a "free" 35g hex...as I really wasn't going to be opening up my options for more fish. It has been explained to me, that a 35g hex stocks about the same quantity of fish as a 20g

When stocking angelfish, do I just purchase two juveniles and hope that I choose the correct sexes? What is standard practice for obtaining a pair? Thank you so very much for your suggestions. They are much appreciated.

Current tank plan
2 angels
4 cories
1 bulldog or bristlenose pleco
perhaps a pair of Bolivian rams after the tank is established
