ok i was at the lfs and got a few live plant cuttings and got some with roots that they had floating ...i have recently started a planted tank and i really like the look of some of the plants floating on top...so my question is can i leave some floating on top or should i go specifically fo rplants that do float ...in which case i need some advice on what plants can float on top with the hood on! ...I also am not using c02 and amn tryng my hand at more low light and easy to care for so please bear that in mind with suggestions or comments!...also i used my fry tank to start this planted tank...can i still keep my fry in or will the fertilizer be to much for the tiny fry?

Without CO2 you may find that plants do a bit better floating, for they can get the CO2 they need. The fry will do fine with the ferts, in fact, the microscopic life that grows on the plants will be good for them.

I'm rather new at the plant thing too. There are some plants that get their nutrients from their roots as opposed to just from the water, and from what I know they would do better planted. There are some great plants that float and will do well for you. Anacharis is one, and hornwort is another. Java moss and fontainalis (sp?) aren't really rooted either..so check those out.

Water Sprite is very easy and can be grown floating.
