I am really new (and sometimes a bit of a skeptic too) I have seen many websites for Online ordering of Live Rock... Is there any such thing as ordering LR online and receiving it fully cured and fit to go straight into your aquarium? If anyone would refer me to a reliable company's web address (assuming you, yourself ordered and received nice, fully cured, LR from them) I would LOVE to know about them!

Also, please, maybe you can help me with my earlier post today about cycling my tank with the first LR I put in it?

Thank you again in advance!!!

tampa bay saltwater has good LR. most of it is coraline covered and it comes with some neat goodies. OF course you have to watch out for the bad hitchikers. also floridaliverock.com is a good place.

Bob,
Live rock is cured by allowing the animals that will die or die off to do just that. When live rock is shipped, it is not shipped in water. Instead it is wrapped in newspaper or something similar. Unfortunately, when your "cured" live rock is shipped dry, the curing process must be repeated as you will have additional die-off during transit. I would be pretty skeptical of anyone advertising "cured" live rock.

I've looked a the 2 sites Stephenray75 recommended. One ships their rock in individual plastic bags with water, and the other ships via airline for same day delivery. What is your opinion Stephenray? Did you buy LR from both sources, and did it require any curing when you received it?

These are precisely the kinds of things I am wondering about! Thanks for bringing up the point FishSeller!!!!

Thanks! LOVE this forum!

There is an interesting video about LR harvesting and aquaculture on the TBS site.

What happens to the top/side banner on the web page when you drag your cursor over it is fun too!

Thank you!

Just wanted to say Thanks for the Advice. I ordered live rock, live sand and janitorial critters from Tampa Bay Saltwater and I am ASTOUNDED!!!! What I received was several, different sized and shaped pieces of corraline, sponge, plant, coral, and critter covered, very porus rock! It is stunningly beautiful and packed FULL of LIFE (read ALIVE STUFF) From clams, to feather duster worms, to crabs (good and bad) to tiny brittle stars and urchins. I am a natural-born skeptic, so, I was a little afraid of trusting an online source to get me stuff that was anything short of stinking and foul LOL... It looks as if they went into the ocean, picked me out some beautiful and varied sections of the reef, placed them in bags full of water, placed the bags into well insulated styrofoam boxes and put them directly onto the airplane for me. Of all that I got, there was only one DOA - a snail. Everything else is living and appears quite healthy after 5 days in my tank.

For Clarification: TBS CULTURES their live rock, so they didn't ACTUALLY break of pieces of the Reef!!!! :-)

I am SO happy I want to recommend www.tampabaysaltwater.com to anyone who wants not just LR but LIVING rock.!!!! Use their AIR FREIGHT shipping option!
