Hey I was just curious becasue I can not find it anywhere, but how long does it usually take for a base rock to start growing like a live rock does. I know you need to put it with live rock. But lets say you have one base rock and one live rock touching eachother. How long you think? Thanks.

Depends on what you mean . The bacteria will start to infest the rock fairly quickly and that's what you need to help with toxin removal from your water column. As to coraline and other critters that can take a lot longer and sometimes you'll even need to help the process along a bit by placing some of what ever organism you are looking for on the base rock.

you don't need to have them touching, they can be in either sides of the tank for all it matters. The base rock will get algae on it quickly so it will hide the new colour that base rock has. Mine looked like live rock after about 1 month. Now it is totally live, and I can't even see which is which.
