I am having troubles with algae in the pond, we have a few plants and goldfish and some koi and bullfrogs. the tablets that prevent or kill algae also kill plants and we want to keep these but the algae gets so bad that you can not even see the fish or anything else for that matter, what would be a good solution for this?

I have a pond in total full sun and I have NO algae. The solution I found was lots of plants. I have lots of anacharis (elodea) and some other oxygenators plants at the bottom, a water lily, a water lily-like plant called a flaoting heart, then I have hungry marginal plants... mint, caladiums, cardinal flower, then most important floaters... water hyacynth and duckweed are fantastic at out competeing algae. NEVER use an algaecide, its poison for fish and plants. How many fish do you have and how big is the pond?

Kyle, I had a crazy allgae problem... barley did the trick along with trying to aviod to many nutrients in the water. I got rid of some plants that the fish liked to eat. Hope this helps...RC

If you have green water algae, a u.v unit would get rid of it. Its worth the investment.

The secret to keeping a pond clear, especially if you want lots of fish in it with clear, healthy water is to make your own bio-filter. Our clubs website at: www.geocities.com/ont_pondkeper has a diagram of a filter we've been using for years.
We have been breeding Koi and Goldfish for years and don't use plants in the pond, unless they can be placed in the pond with no dirt. Sometimes we put in one or two water hyacinths or a couple of water soldiers. The filtration system keeps the fish healthy and the water nice and clear.
