I am so retarded! Today I came home and my brand new betta was stuck. He was wrapped around my filter. The filter has been trying to suck him in all day. Now he is lying on the gravel breathing ever so slightly. I'm so sad :( I had my filter on high b/c all of my fish had trouble breathing and so forth. Guessing maybe I should have not done that? Grrrrr!

LOL. you put a powerful filter with a Betta??

Bettas like still waters and little water movement, they weren't made to cut thru waters like them tiger barbs.

I'm glad you think it's funny. I for one was very upset. As I think any fish lover would have been. Actually, I have an Aqua clear mini filter. So I'm guessing maybe the fish wasn't healthy to start with I don't know. But he did die.

I'm sorry for your loss, Mtdew. I too have a Betta. I just "rescued" him from a unhealthy environment. I am currently looking into getting an appropriate filter for him and other fish in a 20 gal tank. I was looking at the AC150 or the Penguin 125. Which would you suggest? I sure hope those don't have too much power for him to swim around. Maybe I should place the filter more towards one of the sides and he may stay on the far side. I just don't know what else to use other than bubble filters. CO2 gets lost when there is too much surface agitation and I plan on planting the tank a bit. I also need something that will filter the water enough to have some other fish in it as well. Wish the best for me!

If it's any consolation, I doubt the fish died because it got stuck to the filter. More likely it got stuck to the filter because it was dying.

I grant you that Betta splendens prefers still waters, but it is strong enough to resist getting stuck to a filter intake. Unless, of course, it's on its last fins.

Goldfries - get a sense of humour transplant.

Sumpin'fishy, my boyfriend pointed out something he does for his flitler. And i was like "duh" He puts a sponge over the filter intake. It helps filter water and it would help poor little fishies from getting stuck in there as well. Between the two filters you asked about I"m not sure abuot them Both of my tanks have plain ol Aqua Clear filters. Hope that helps :)

I've had my male betta for a while with an AC mini on the lowest setting. I have danios and neons in there as well. they are all in good shape, and i've never seen a problem getting any of them stuck, or lack of oxygen. I love my AC, and obviously my betta does too, he doesn't get stuck!
