OK about 2 months ago (maybe a little longer) I purchased a new skimmer for my tank ,at the time I was having a horrible hair algae problem. The new skimmer pulled out so much gunk I had to clean it twice a week . Now the tank is pristine and the skimmer is only needing to be emptied once every two weeks.
1. Is this normal???
2. Should I not run the skimmer constantly???

Great to hear that the tank has been cleaned up. There are a couple of reasons the skimmer is pulling less stuff.
1. There's less stuff to pull out.
2. The venturi inlet is getting constricted by salt creep or calcium. If it's salt creep, putting it on a timer so it is off a few hours a day will dissolve it. If it's calcium, a good soak in 50/50 white vinegar/water will loosen it up. Might need a little poking with a paper clip.
