My lfs says that fish can only be kept a few hours in bags and even goes to the trouble of having a tank of oxygen on hand in case people need to keep them in there for more than a few hours. I've heard on this forum that all fish bags are breathable in the dry part of the bag. I've also bought fish at auction that were in bags for the better part of a day with no problems. Are there some bags that do not "breath" at all, and why would a store use them as apposed to "breathable" bags?

not sure... but i try to get my new fish out of the bags as soon as possible... they may just be exaggerating to make sure noone leaves them in there for a long time...

The breathable bags are great but I think they are more expensive. That may be why stores don't use them. And the breathable bags are really for shipping fish. I've received apistos from Florida (to me in California) in the breathable bags. And the fish were send US priority mail which took 4 days. They looked fine when they arrived. Not stressed at all.
