View Full Version : Do you take better care of your fish then yourself?

After learning a great deal about proper aquarium/fish care on this site I now feed my fish a varied diet, they get regular water changes, treated water, a habitat that attempts to keep them feeling secure, a regular day/night schedule….

So I go to the doctor about a month ago and find I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, need more exercise…

So my question is do you take better care of your fish then you do yourself? I seem to be doing that. 

"Do you take better care of your fish then yourself?"

Most probably...

i will have to admit that my pets come first. between my 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 turtles and multiple fish tanks and a full time job, i dont have time for myself!
my dogs and cats have been to the vet more often than i have gone to my own doctor.
i care more about what they eat than what i eat. i pay attention to their diet to make sure they get all the nutrition and vitamins they need to stay healthy. whereas i'm prone to just pick up a burger on the way home work.

I don't know about my fish, but I can say for certain that my Labrador is better taken care of than I am. We get up at 6:00 and go run basic obedience/light retrieving drills until about 7:00 when I take a shower, pound some coffee and go to work. When I get home, we walk to the beach where he works on more advanced retrieving, land-over-water retrieves, vigorous swimming, etc. etc. He's just about solid muscle. He eats well, gets adequate sleep, excersizes twice a day, receives one-on-one training time, etc. etc. On the other hand, I don't eat well, sleep about 5 hours a night, don't get enough exercize etc. etc.

Fish and kitties come first (usually in that order at dinner time much too Poo's dismay!) Even my friends have been complaining that I spend too much time futzing with my tanks and not enough time with them lately. LOL

Uh, yea.... I'm with JudgeMax. Between my 2 year old, my 4 year old, my 2.5 year old Godson that I watch all week, the Dingo (<---), 2 tanks (soon to be 3) the laundry, the dishes, the housework, the shopping...... I'm lucky if I get both legs shaved every week! LOL! ;)

And truth be told, I'd LOVE to have a hairless Guinea Pig, a parakeet pair and an iguana for that empty 135g sitting in my garage, but my husband is drawing the line... If I had all of that, I wouldn't have time for HIM anymore!

I dunno, I take pretty good care of myself. This body's a temple ;)

Ultimate practices and/or games 4-5 times per week plus the occasional weekend long tournament. Mornings training. I don't eat great, but I don't eat terribly. But of course there's always the occasional workout for the liver as well ;)

I definitely clean my tanks more often than my apartment though.

aaah the dingo....i have an ACD as well. she's a handful. i love her to death but she's just a ball of energy. and thank god for her "babies" (squeaky toys) that keep her occupied when i'm trying to do water changes and do housework. i give her a baby and she plays with it so she's not underfoot.
the rest of the time we go for long walks and she plays in the creek by our house. she's a very good dog. i'm thinking about maybe getting her to do agility. she definitely has the stamina for it.

Oh everyone gets taken better care of than me....I forget MD apts when I get busy at work...put off mamogram because busy at work...forget dentists apt..same reason :(
Put off applying for kids college loan because busy at work....go home late because busy at work...there's a trend here isn't there?
That's why I have the fish...stress relief!!

Ramirezi, you must have trained your ACD better than we trained ours! LOL

The Dingo, well, he's always underfoot and never occupied. We did have him in nice, private doggy lessons when he was a puppy, and he minds my husband wonderfully, but he pretty much has my number and knows how to get around the "rules" with me.

Smartest dog I've ever known in my life... way too smart for his own good! I could tell you stories, but I'm sure you have all the same stories too! ;) We thought we'd have to find him a new home when our children came along because he was just SO rowdy! But he's never been anything but totally gentle and protective of them!
