Anyone got any good eBay tips? Iv got a deal hocked into me now. A $150 XM MyFi. Its going to end in 24h, when should I bid? And what if its ending in something like 3 days? Is it best to bid now (let everyone know you are there), or big druing the final 10min, and supprise everyone?

Hey Kas! I have bought several things on e-bay in the past, but now, I avoid it or I just do the "buy it now" button because of all the "Snypers" out there! Makes me friggin' sick! :pc:
Don't bid on your item now, plan to be at your computer during the last 10 minutes of bidding and be prepared for action. If you really want this item, at the very last minute, or within the last 30 seconds, bid the absolute highest amount you'd be willing to pay for it.
You may not actually PAY that amount, you only have to just beat the highest bid before you, but if you really want it, bid the highest amount that you're willing to pay as close to auction ending as possible.
This is snyping. I hate it. But that's just how E-bay is now.

Thats what everyone says to do. Iv got 2 computers in my room, and another 2 in my dads office, and a few more around the house. I think Il have 3 of them at the page and ready to bid while one will just keep refreshing to check to price. No one can beat me now!!one11!!on1!e

Ah yes..I am one of the evil ebay snipers because that's how you get what you want. Not always, but most of the time it. I've bought and sold..mostly bought.
Carefully check your seller's feedback. I don't buy from anyone with below 98% positive feedback. Check and see why people were unhappy if you are considering buying from someone with negative feedback. I ahve not bought things because I did not like the sellers feedback rating.
I may bid early on something, but if I'm serious about something I will generally try to be on a computer when an auction is going up. Bid with about 1 min 30 sec or a little less and bid the max you want to pay.
If you bid the max you want a day or 2 before an auction is over..people will just run it up. Sometimes you don't get the item, becasue someone has posted a bid that is more that you are willing to pay, and don't sweat it. Usually another one will come along.
I use paypal to pay..I hate going out and getting cashiers checks. I do the transfer from my checking and they have my credit card as back up so I get their buyer protection and I have a verified address. Some sellers will not sell to someone unless they are a verified seller.
When you are figuring out what you want to pay for an item, take into consideration what the shipping and insurance charges are. can you buy the same item in a store near you for the same price? You should always ask yourself that. Take into account paying tax. Here in the US ebay sales are not taxed unless you are in the same state..maybe. Read the auction description carefully. I would not buy anything breakable without insurance. Ever. I will get stuff like clothes or books without it. I have had things arrive broken and have gotten my money back becasue of the insurance. I have bought a lot of depression glass over ebay, and collectible pottery & ceramic stuff and the great majority arrives well packed and fine.

It's been you! ... ... :D
Ya, I always do "Buy It Now", because I'm too slow to ever win an auction. :o My advice is to wait 'til the same or a similar item comes up with that option...

I wait till the last minute and then bid all that I am willing to spend. If someone before me bid more it was not meant to be. If I am $60 higher than the next bidder they will waste the last few seconds trying to creap up $2.00 at a time and it is mine.
I will say though. The Buy Now button sure keeps it simple and allows you to go to bed or go to work for those auctions that end at 3am or 2pm during the week.

It all depends on weather or not you need the item or if you can survive not winning. Most of the time I bid in the last minute with my highest bid. But in reality, because that's what most everyone is doing, it shouldn't really matter if you bid early or at the last minute. And if you bid early, it won't show your high bid, unless someone else bids on the item too.
And paypal is the only way to go. The few times I have sold something, that's all I except because its so easy and you get the money instantly. So if you use it for buying too, the item will ship faster.

I just put in my maximum bid when I see the item I want. If someone outbids me, so be it. There's not too many one of a kind items on there...I'm sure you'll see the same thing listed again...Less stressful and time consuming than sitting and waiting out the last 30 minutes.
They call that snyping? I haven't bid on there in a long time, but that's how I've always done it.

Iv got a question, say the MyFi is at $150. If I bid $200 (Im crazy), and the least bid from someone is only $153, how much do I end up paying?
nursie
07-24-2005, 10:40 AM
If the bid is currently $153.00, all that will show is whatever the increment increase that the buyer has specified..read the page that you submit the bid on and it will tell you.
For example if the seller has set the bid increment amount to be $2.00, when you bid it will show the current price as $155.00 with you as the high bidder.
If the current bidder has set say $250.00 as his max amount, the price will show as $202.00 with him as the high bidder and you will get an outbid notice. You will not know what he has set as a high bid, all is will tell you is that he had bid higher than you.
If you hold the high bid with your $200.00 bid, as I said it will show the $155.00 amount until someone bids against you. If someone bids $160.00, the bid will show as $162.00 with you as the high bidder. If someone bids $170.00, it will show $172.00 with you as the high bidder. If the auction end with you as the winner, say at that price, you will pay that amount, in addition to the sellers specified amount for shipping and handling and insurance. You should check what those amounts are going to be before you bid, and take that into account when deciding how much to bid.
Your max bid of $200.00 is not shown to the seller, nor do you have to pay that unless that amount is reached. On the other hand, if the bid tops out at your $200.00 you will have more to cover the shipping, handling and insurance. Hope that helps.

Is this snipers anonymous? I generally bid with about 20 sconds remaining. I bid the highest that I am willing to pay. As for the timing, I only do that for the auctions I will be around for when they end. For others, like the 3 AM ones, I bid early and then just hope...

I used ACs snyping ways to get myself a loaded XM MyFi. It went from $140 (what i was planing to pay) to $160 all in the last 30 sec. But with 20sec on the clock, and my 4 pcs up I bid $165 and won. Now...to find the money.

its not the money. kids just clog up the system wth their crap. try educatiing yourself before you start bidding.
JUST KIDS IN GENERAL.
I have been burned a few time since I sell stuff that kids want I get a lot of children bidding on stuff and then I have to wait while someone drives them to mommy and daddys bank to get a money order.

Not much difference between them and the adults in that respect. I'm shopping ebay now for an Ipod for my niece..
AND in my buying and selling on Ebay...I've been stiffed by adults, so what's the beef with Kas? I don't care how old the seller or buyer is, I care what their feedback rating is. SOme sellers restrict their selling and don't sell to those with no or low feedback, or negative feedback. If that's a concern, you might want to make that a practice in your ebay selling instead of dumping on someone who may well be a good ebay customer. You don't know.
AND prior to my paypal days..I had to drive myself to my bank for a money order...and still do if I buy something that the seller doesn't acept paypal for. Since I work 40++ hrs a week...yeah, it takes me some time to get there. No difference if it were a kid.

Ok Kas1 is out ta here. Don’t even mention that.
Kids and adults are the same. Kids need just need their parents more while adults more independent. If you are going to discriminate kids, then go ahead. But you are closing your auctions to millions of people, and it’s your loss, not mine.
IM NOT A KID! God dammit, how many times do I have to say that?
Would you please edit that?

Harlock style: IM NOT A KID! (Insert favourite bad word here), how many times do I have to say that?
Kas2 style: IM NOT A KID. How many times do I have to say that!?!?!
Hows that?
Being a kid is not a bad thing, but you are a kid, and kids and adults are different no matter what you think at 13.

I have to side with Kas on this one. If the guy has the money and he's willing to spend it. He's just as entitled as anyone else to use whatever avenues he finds convenient to obtain what he is looking for. I hate to break it to you punk, but money from a 13 year old spends just as easily as money from a 60 year old.
Kas, you have still failed to edit your comment. It would be appreciated if you would.
I do agree that as long as the seller gets paid by the deadline date, there shouldn't be a problem. The longer it takes to receive the fund, the longer the buyer has to wait to get their product.
I use paypal, but since I took my credit card off it, it takes longer for my payments to get through. I hate it because it takes longer to get my stuff. Doesn't seem to matter that I'm a verified member... for some reason.

Oh dear golly, help me.... Now there's software to do the sniping for you. I'll never bid on e-bay again! :pc:

My question is...if there is software for automatically bid in the last 10 sec...what does it do if several people are using the same thing and bidding on the same thing? Hmmmm....
