I've been doing some more research on the porcupine puffer fish. Just when I decide to get him, I decide against it. A lady I know had one in her tank with other fish and had no problems, he ate nobody. Reading on different boards there are a few people here and there that have had their porcupine eat everything in the tank. I read that the fish I have are compatible tank mates for the puffer so I really want to get him. The one lfs said he eats fish, so which is it? Do they eat tankmates or not? Is it from fish to fish. I plan on getting a small/baby one. The big aquarium center here usually has them pretty small. Also, will he bother a chocolate chip star fish if fed well?

i have never had one, but at one of the lfs i go to, they have one about 7 inches long, he will eat anything they put in with him. i dont know if its typical or not, but i know this one has a really mean streak!!

Normally not unless his tankmates are shrimp, snails, urchins or starfish. They eat krill, shrimp, clams, cockles. They need to have some shelled foods to keep their teeth from overgrowing (or you could play dentist). They need a 90gal minimum. They are messy eaters, so you'll need a good skimmer. They get to be 18-20" long.
