I'm kind of new to all of this..... so here goes. :duh:
I just started an african tank about a month ago(46gal). It cycled (fishless) for one month. I used biozyme as a friend told me it works great? My water finally tested ok to get fish so I went and got 1 yellow lab and a juvi red empress. They seemed to be doing okay so I went to get 2 more yellow labs (hoping i'd get a pair) Well, I did and now they are picking on the third yellow lab who has no partner. I've been watching it closely and doing frequent water changes 20% every other day to keep the ammonia levels down. But now my lonely yellow lab is just laying on the crushed coral/ rocks not really moving much and I'm kinda of worried. Any suggestions? :thud:

I'd separate him from the other fish. He's getting beaten to death and will die if you don't intervene. (Unfortunately, it may be too late.) If you don't have a spare tank, you can make a separator out of egg crate (the grid that is often found over ceiling-mounted fluorescent lights; available at home stores) and split the tank in half.

Sometimes rearranging the tank decor will help, as will adding additional rocks to create more caves to block off the sightlines across the tank. Your fish sounds pretty abused, though, and I'd do whatever I could to segregate him.

Good luck,
Jim

I did get a 10 gal for this exact reason but It's not ready yet ( only been cycling with feeder fish for 1 week ) so I just wanted to see if there was anything I can do before i resort to taking the chance of putting him in a tank that's not ready. Would the LFS I got him from take him back???

take some gravel from the cycled tank and put into the 10g tank. then take you filter media pad and swish it around in the ten gallon tank for a couple of minutes. That will get the cycle really moving in that tank. Of course, it might be a little late for that, but it will speed up the cycle in the new tank.

When I first started my 10 gal I took the gravel from my established 46 gal and also some rocks hoping it would help my cycle. Anyway, I moved my yellow lab last night into the 10 gal. He seems to be swimming around a lot more. He's still a scaredy cat.. If someone walks by the tank and he's out from under his rock he will try his best to get under his favorite rock. I tried to feed him brine shrimp, but no luck, he won't eat. :(
