Does anyone else have any of the Whisper filters that hang inside the tank? I got a couple. one for my 2.5 gal tank and the other for my 10 gal tank. I bought both off ebay...different sellers, so I don't think sellers fault...but both have crapped out in 3-4 months. I'm not a happy camper.
OK..so my 2.5 gal betta tank doesn't really need a filter, but I do need one for the 10 gal. Any cannister filters out there for 10 gals? I don't loke the hang on backs. I think they are too messy. I just repainted my walls and don't want to get water all over them.

I have a Whisper on my 5 gallon tank. However I haven't had it for more then a couple months. As far as not needing filtration for the 2.5 gallon, incorrect. Any tank that has fish needs some sort of filtration. Unless you are willing to do water changes every day. In the least get an underground filter for that one.

As far as canisters I've actually never had one. But the most frequent one I hear about is Fluval so I assume that's a good one. Other then the Whisper both my other tanks run Penguin HOB filters.

Sorry I couldn't help more,
Curtis

Drs Foster and Smith have a small combo filter and heater, maybe I'll check that out. These whispers are for the birds!

I have a whisper 60 HOB and i'm pretty happy with it.
I use it in conjunction with my Aquaclear 500 wich I absolutly love.

I have a penguin 100 w/ biowheel on my 10 gallon tank and it does a great job... it's an HOB but it does not splash on my walls and is not messy in any way. Very quiet and easy to clean, etc. Good luck finding one you like!

I should clarify..the splashing on the walls is my fault. WHen I clean the tanks, I leave the filters running, and would end up ahving to reprime them...which involved pouring water in the filters hanging on the back, so therefore splashing water on the walls.... :girl:
Not a problem with cannisters!

I have had a whisper filter on my 2.5g for a year now. So far, so good! A good alternative to a cannister is an internal filter. I have an Aquarium Systems Duetto Multi Internal Filter -DJ50 on my 5g betta tank and it performs very well. I have been very pleased with it. Duetto has several models with different gph ratings. The one I have is on the low end of the scale.

I've had several whisper mini's that I use on 2.5-5g tanks and all are still in working order. I can't say anything bad about them (and they reprime themselves, too:D) other than I hate that you have to remove the filter to adjust the flow on the back.
