Leaf Fish!!!! Spotted climbing perch

how do i know if my leaf fish ( spotted climbing perch - Ctenopoma acutirostre) is eating? I am feeding feeder danios from my LFS guy but all my other fish like them too.... so how can I be sure that he is getting food. I guess he is eating because I have had his for two weeks and he doesn't look thin and he moves more than I thought he was going to. I think they were trying to feed him flakes at the place I rescued him from. They got him as a trade in and weren't sure what he even was. I will be sad if he starved to death since he is my coolest fish!

I thought they only ate live fish. I could be thinking of one of the other "leaf fish" Are'nt there Asian, African and South American fish that all look the same? I could probably look it up before I post this, but I'm too lazy.

hi

started it out with 2 but the latter addition (even after just a couple days) drove the first to an early demise. should've added them together :(

I feed mine flakes, frozen blood worms and cichlid pellets and i've even him seen go after the algae wafers i feed my pl*co.

of course he's also eaten a couple of swordtails i thought were too big to put in his mouth and also some feeder guppies.

had him about 5 months. he's a pig and as grown about an inch since i got him.

Very cool fish and not at all a picky eater.

he is looking fat after throwing in 3 feeders after lights out. I tried to catch him in the act but he is very sneaky at night.... so I think he is good. A very cool and powerful fish!

P.S. he wont' even look at pellets or frozen anything not that he has a chance to with all the competition!

here's mine...

mine wasn't enthusiastic about pellets either at first but after seeing the others, especially the greedy angels and gouramis he figured he was missing out on something.

lfs claimed they fed them pellets but i did see feeder guppys in the tank with them. took a couple of days to get the live food only out of his head.

didn't take him long to put 2 + 2 together.

long as he's eating something he's doing ok but don't be surprised if he starts tasting what you feed the others.

btw, the way they go about "hunting and stalking" is really strange, prolly why i like the fish so much lol.

yeah he is so funny and REALLY STRONG! he took a bite at the gravel and I could hear the force of his hit! it was crazy! It i hard for me to take good pictures with my crappy camera but he is a very cool fish and looks alot like ncgoldfish's pic but a little darker. very funny and cool fish if you can find one and you don't have small fish he is a great addition to the tank
