Ok heres the equipment i have: AGA 40g breeder display, AGA 20L sump/fuge, pro-pak skimmer, 700gph return pump, diy stand. What i plan on getting is a 4-39watt T-5HO lighting.I already have 60lbs of base rock from hirocks.com that i will seed with LR. My livestock plan is: any coral except sps, pair of clowns, firefish, goby/pistol shrimp pair, pair of cleaner shrimp, plenty of snails, 1 hermit crab. Im up for suggestions on any livestock i should or should not add to this list. I would like to have a starfish but i have heard nothing but bad about them.

Sounds like a very nice plan. Are you planning to light the fuge?

Among the SPS, you shouldn't write off montipora species. They are resilient and are very adaptable to different lighting.

As far as stars, serpent stars have always been hardy and well-behaved for me.

Its not the lighting that im worried about on the sps, i personally dont like sps. I was planning on just using a 20 watt screw in pc in a lamp over the fuge that will run on reverse lighting.

The thing i keep hearing about starfish that i dont like is that they knock over everything.

Never had that problem with serpent stars. They tend to wiggle around and between things, rather than bulldoze.
